Speers operates an open pit gypsum mine in The East Kootenays. Speers was awarded the contract in 1988 and continues to operate the mine with a staff of approximately a dozen employees.
It has five main operations consisting of stripping, drilling & blasting, sorting & screening, crushing, and hauling. The first operation of stripping is done to expose the rock for
drilling and blasting.
In 2007 Speers was awarded a contract with Heemskirk Canada to look after the mining operations of one of their Silica quarries in British Columbia. Speers looks forward to building a long-term relationship with Heemskirk as they have with many of their clients.
