Safety First! At Speers Construction Inc. we take the health and safety of our employees, subcontractors and the public very seriously. We take pride in providing a comprehensive, progressive health and safety program that encourages worker involvement and a proactive attitude towards safety. Our commitment to safety has ensured our COR certification since 2006 and the implementation of a formal Return to Work program component being implemented in 2009.
Our Health and Safety Coordinator oversees the program and works with our supervisors and workers to ensure compliance and proper documentation and reporting to our company and Worksafe. The smooth functioning of this program to date has enabled us to meet the stringent and ever changing safety standards within the various industries, and to excel in both our internal and external audits.
Ongoing training of our employees is an important component of our safety program and we promote a variety of both “in house” and external training including but not limited to, First Aid, Supervisor training, S100, Confined Space, Hoisting & Rigging, Transportation Endorsement, Gas monitoring, WHMIS, Transportation of Dangerous Goods, Due Diligence, Environmental Training, and Avalanche Awareness to name a few.
We also maintain a Joint Occupational Health and Safety committee made up of workers, supervisors and management. They meet once a month to review program function as a whole, make suggestions as to any safety issues that arise on job sites and act as a liaison to bring worker issues to the table. Workers are encouraged to provide both input and knowledge based solutions directly or through their worker appointed liaison.
We have recently implemented a green hand program to acknowledge and address the challenges of new and young workers along with a worker specific Field Level Hazard Assessment (FLHA). With an ever increasing focus on safety, you can be confident that we will continue to recognize, acknowledge and act on important safety considerations on every job we take on.
