 Safety
first! We take the health and safety of our employees seriously
and take pride in a functioning health and safety program
that has allowed us to become COR certified in 2006. The STAR
COR program is operated by the Construction Association of
BC in partnership with Worksafe BC. In order to maintain our
COR certification we have to meet certain criteria on all
our projects, including annual internal and external audits
of our safety program. By the end of 2007, we also hope to
have our "SAFE" forestry certification which specifically
focuses on our integrated forest management operations.
In May 2007, we hired a health and safety coordinator to
oversee the program and ensure that the program continues
to improve, functions smoothly, and enables us to meet safety
standards for the industry. Ongoing training is a large
component of this program and Speers continues to provide
in an out of house training for its workers on an ongoing
basis.
We have also implemented a Joint Occupational Health and
Safety committee that meets once a month to review the program
and any issues that might arise, in the course of operations.
Workers are encouraged to provide input directly or through
their worker appointed liaison.
With our growing awareness of safety, everyone can feel
safe with all aspects of our growing company.
